Special Guest Speaker: Eboo Patel

Author, Speaker, Educator, Founder and President of Interfaith America

Eboo Patel is a civic leader who believes that religious diversity is an essential and inspiring dimension of American democracy. Named "one of America's best leaders" by U.S. News and World Report, Eboo is Founder and President of Interfaith America, the leading interfaith organization in the United States. Under his leadership, Interfaith America has worked with governments, universities, private companies, and civic organizations to make faith a bridge of cooperation rather than a barrier of division. 

Eboo served on President Obama's Inaugural Faith Council, has given hundreds of keynote addresses, and has written five books, including We Need to Build: Field Notes for Diverse Democracy. He is an Ashoka Fellow and holds a doctorate in the sociology of religion from Oxford University, where he studied on a Rhodes scholarship. Eboo lives in Chicago with his wife, Shehnaz, and their two sons.

Special Guest Speaker: Sean Casten 

United States Congressman

As a scientist, clean energy entrepreneur and CEO, and now as a Member of Congress, Representative Sean Casten has dedicated his life to fighting climate change. In Congress, Casten draws on his two decades of experience as a business leader to reduce emissions while creating jobs, lowering energy costs for Americans, and spurring economic growth.

Rep. Casten serves on the House Financial Services Committee and is Vice Ranking Member of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) and is a Co-Chair of the Sustainable Investment Caucus.

While working diligently in Washington on behalf of Illinois' 6th Congressional District, Rep. Casten is also committed to keeping in close contact with his constituents. He lives in Downers Grove with his family.

Master of Ceremonies: Lisa Parker

Journalist

Lisa Parker is an independent journalist in Chicago. She recently hung up her microphone at NBC5 Chicago, and is now a journalism fellow, teaching at The DePaul University Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence, as well as working on projects in the world of NGOs.

At NBC5, Parker broke multiple national stories, which led to change and reform in the consumer safety world, including reports on the issue of keyless emission-related deaths, the "Bye-bye Syndrome" involving backover deaths of small children, errors in credit reporting, toxic chemicals in children's products, and the lack of seatbelts in the rear center seat of passenger vehicles manufactured prior to a federal safety law, which was introduced after a legislator saw Parker's reporting.

Parker is the recipient of 17 Midwest Emmys, three Gracie Allen Alliance for Women in Media awards, as well as various other state and local awards. She attended Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, speaks proficient Spanish, and lives in Oak Park with her family and ill-behaved rescue puppy.
